recordwow Capture privacy policy

This policy describes the recordwow Capture Chrome extension. Contact Recordwow at try.recordwow@gmail.com about extension privacy or support.

Screenshots and local images

The extension captures a page, screen, or window only when you request it. You can also choose a local image or paste an image from your clipboard. Captures may contain anything visible in the selected area, including personal information. Review the image and use crop or blur before sharing it.

Screenshot editing and English optical character recognition run on your device using code and language files bundled with the extension. The extension does not upload screenshot images or extracted text to Recordwow or an OCR service. Saving a PNG writes a file to a location you choose. Copying extracted text places it on your clipboard.

Local retention

Screenshot handoff images are stored in the extension's local IndexedDB storage. They become unavailable after one hour. Expired entries are deleted when accessed or when a new capture is stored; expiry does not imply a background deletion exactly one hour later. Saved files remain on your device until you delete them. Removing the extension clears its local extension storage; separately downloaded files remain.

Optional mouse capture

When you explicitly enable mouse-activity capture, the extension records click/move positions and timing on the selected page. Downloadable metadata can include the page origin, viewport size, element labels, selectors, and element bounds. The metadata tools exclude typed form values. Screenshot pixels can still include visible form content.

Mouse metadata remains in that page's memory until it is stopped or the page navigates. When you pair the same browser tab with an approved Recordwow recorder origin, the extension transfers position/timing/type data and viewport details to that recorder. Pairing uses a one-use identifier with a three-hour expiry and checks the requesting origin. The web app may store paired metadata with the recording.

Optional navigation connection

If you choose to connect a Recordwow navigation API key, the extension stores the key and the selected Recordwow origin in Chrome session storage. Disconnecting removes the connection; closing the browser clears the session. The extension sends the key to your chosen approved Recordwow endpoint to authenticate navigation requests.

Loading a plan sends the selected page's origin to the connected Recordwow workspace. Running a plan requires your review and approval. The extension executes bounded click/scroll actions and returns the result, selected page origin/title, and a bounded set of visible labels, selectors, and positions. These labels can contain personal information present on the page. The returned information is available to the connected workspace and its authorized agent. The plan runner cannot type into fields or submit forms.

Connections to the hosted Recordwow service use HTTPS. An HTTP connection is available only for an explicitly configured localhost/127.0.0.1 installation on the same device.

Recording in the web app

The extension opens the Recordwow website with your source, camera, and microphone preferences. The web app handles sign-in, browser screen/device permission prompts, recording, and video storage. Screenshot tools work without a Recordwow account. Web recording and workspace features require workspace access and are subject to the service's account and data practices.

Use and disclosure

Extension data is used to provide the capture, editing, and walkthrough features you choose. Recordwow does not sell extension user data or use it for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. Optional connected features share the data described above with the workspace/agent you connect. User-directed exports and sharing are under your control.

Recordwow's use of information received through the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Access or transfer is limited to providing the disclosed features, necessary security or legal purposes, or another use permitted by that policy. Human access is limited to user consent, necessary security/legal purposes, or permitted aggregated internal operations.

Your choices

You can use local screenshot tools without enabling optional metadata or navigation features. Stop mouse capture or navigate away to end it, disconnect a navigation connection, revoke its API key in the workspace, remove optional site access in Chrome, or uninstall the extension. For data already transferred to a Recordwow workspace, contact your workspace owner or try.recordwow@gmail.com for access or deletion assistance. Retention of hosted workspace data depends on that workspace and service configuration; local deletion does not delete already transferred records.
